More than talk needed to fix DRPA

One of the problems with Jersey politics is that pols use the people's money to promote themselves and their own interests.  An analysis showed since 2004, the bi-state DRPA has contributed more than $775,000 to civic and social agencies — many with close ties to DRPA board members and executives. The work done by the Philadelphia Inquirer also showed that among those getting money were the Philadelphia Eagles. Several charities tied to CEO John Matheussen also got contributions. They money for those contributions comes from tolls commuters pay. The DRPA wants to raise the tolls on the four Delaware River bridges it operates next summer. Since they've been giving it away so freely, it's hard to justify a raise in tolls especially considering the rust spots on the Walt Whitman Bridge that haven't been repaired while the DRPA was handing out cash to outsiders.

Gov. Christie has told Matheussen to clean up his act or leave. That was far too kind. He should have been fired. Jeff Nash, Long-time South Jersey pol and water carrier for Boss George Norcross, should be asked to resign as vice chairman and and if he doesn't, Christie should keep vetoing the minutes of DRPA minutes.

If the governor is serious, he will more than talk. Matheussen is a former Republican state senator. But the Republicans owe Matheussen nothing. He left the seat to take the DRPA job so the Democrats could get it to control appointments. Matheussen is a turn-coat. Christie should known that.
