Why create yet another DRPA job?

Rep. Rob Andrews wants to create a new office to watch over the DRPA, a bi-state political patronage pit in South Jersey that operates four bridges and the PATCO light rail line. Another patronage office inside DRPA like the fox hiring another fox to watch the hen house. Geese. Said Andrews, "Authorities are kind of a hidden government. They take in a huge amount of public money and there is not a lot of accountability to how they spend it." He would also reduce the DRPA board for 16 to 12 members and allow the Pennsylvania governor to veto the minutes as the New Jersey governor can now. The board and the veto are all right. But why do we have to have yet another employee to monitor the rest of them?  Fire the CEO, former Republican Sen. John Matheussen. Yeah, I know the official line is only the DRPA board can do that. But Christie can tighten the screws on the board with his vetoes of the minutes. He also can ask for the resignation of Jeff Nash, the vice chairman, and tell their replacement to get with the program. Oh, wait. Matheussen

took the job so the South Jersey Democrat machine could spend $4 million to elect a Democrat to replace him. And Nash, he's the main water carrier for South Jersey Boss George Norcross. Come to think of it, Andrews is also a Democrat from  Camden County. The real question is why has Gov. Christie allowed Matheussen and Nash to remain in place while criticizing the agency that can spent money on useless things but let the rust build up on the Walt Whitman Bridge. If Christie wants credibility for his reforms, he has to match his words with action. It really looks like Christie is afraid of Norcross, or as some Statehouse people believe, Christie has cut a deal with him. Tough talk is one thing, follow through something else.
